Car Ride

I like driving with no hands.
I look life in the eye and tell her my demands
“I need peace,’ I tell her, “I need hope.’
In response she hands me rope.
‘What you wish for you can’t have,’
She cuts me down the middle, ‘you can keep this half.’
She takes part of me with her and It is gone.
What is left of me just feels wrong.
‘But I don’t want just a fraction,
I want all or none, I need action.’
Why do I get to live when so many who wanted to live, died tragic deaths?
