Sun Cloud

Sun Cloud

Sun cloud on a plate…
Over easy, your bright promise
Glows subtly beneath white veil,
Reminding me
That ‘every cloud has a silver lining’
Where hope lies in wait of discovery…
I gently pierce the soft center of you

About this poem

One afternoon, while looking up at the sky, the sun was lightly veiled by a passing cloud. That sight inspired this poem.

Susan Mayer Brumel

I am a retired hospice social worker, who began writing poems about 2 years ago. I am married, a mom of two sons, a Bernese Mountain Dog, and grandma of two grandchildren who are the loves of my life. A lover of all animals and most people, I enjoy spending time in nature, long walks, and reading Pablo Neruda, Blake, William Carlos Williams, James Joyce, Mary Oliver, Emily Dickinson, Maya Angelou, Leonard Cohen, and more. Baudelaire tells us to ‘be drunk’ on something every day; I am drunk on poetry and intend never to be sober! more…

I mentioned this elsewhere, but it was between this poem and another for the April contest. I absolutely adore the imagery here. The first line and the last line of themselves would make a poem!

It always fascinates me how so much can be expressed in so little space. This is one of those genius works, and I love how so naturally it came to you.

Thank you, John. I’m so happy you appreciate it. It’s one of my favorites.
I can no longer see a cloud sitting in front of the sun, or an over-easy egg on a plate, without thinking about this poem. Which, is simply about hope…I always try to keep it in my sight line.
Thank you for your vote, my friend.
