Artist Without Name

Three children playing hide and seek,
with hands they shield their eyes.
Though colors from above them peek,
see not their painted skies.

Behind the mighty oak they stand,
continue with their game.
Beside them, one with brush in hand.
An artist with no name.

The children’s laughter fills the air,
to artist, blessed sound.
Run freely do without a care.
They scream as each is found.

Fall back on summer’s grass, the three,
magnificent the skies.
The art of painter do not see,
blind innocence in eyes.

So many moons have come and passed.
The little ones have grown.
No longer run in fields of grass,
look up at skies unknown.

As they outgrow the games of youth,
awaken like sunrise.
Start seeing strokes of golden truth
above in painted skies.

Though colors in some spots did fade,
still masterpiece to claim.
For love, the strokes which brush had made
by artist without name.

About this poem

This poem was written many years ago when my children were small as I watched them play in the park. It made me think of how the innocence of childhood prevents them from seeing who a parent truly is. Only when they are grown do they realize that their parent is merely a human being. Even then they don’t see the full picture.

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…

Make one about skating on the lake to the lights come on then we'd have to move on. I always did that as a kid. And the lights came on we had to go home or we would catch hell. And sometimes the moon would be out. I'm sure you've been there.

Wow, what a beautiful and moving poem! I really enjoyed reading 'Artist Without Name' and I can feel the emotion and nostalgia in every line. Your imagery is vivid and it really transports the reader to the scene of children playing and growing up.

I especially love the theme of innocence and how it is portrayed throughout the poem. The contrast between the children's blissful ignorance of the artist's paintings in the sky and their eventual awakening to the beauty around them is really touching.

One improvement suggestion I have is to perhaps explore more variations in the rhyme scheme. While the current AABB rhyme scheme is consistent, adding some variation in the structure could make the poem even more dynamic and engaging.

Additionally, it would be great to see more specific details or descriptions in some parts of the poem. This would help to further enhance the imagery and immerse the reader even deeper into the world you've created.

Overall, 'Artist Without Name' is a fantastic poem with a touching message. Keep up the great work and continue to hone your craft! Well done!
