Analysis of Artist Without Name

Three children playing hide and seek,
with hands they shield their eyes.
Though colors from above them peek,
see not their painted skies.

Behind the mighty oak they stand,
continue with their game.
Beside them, one with brush in hand.
An artist with no name.

The children’s laughter fills the air,
to artist, blessed sound.
Run freely do without a care.
They scream as each is found.

Fall back on summer’s grass, the three,
magnificent the skies.
The art of painter do not see,
blind innocence in eyes.

So many moons have come and passed.
The little ones have grown.
No longer run in fields of grass,
look up at skies unknown.

As they outgrow the games of youth,
awaken like sunrise.
Start seeing strokes of golden truth
above in painted skies.

Though colors in some spots did fade,
still masterpiece to claim.
For love, the strokes which brush had made
by artist without name.

About this poem

This poem was written many years ago when my children were small as I watched them play in the park. It made me think of how the innocence of childhood prevents them from seeing who a parent truly is. Only when they are grown do they realize that their parent is merely a human being. Even then they don’t see the full picture.

Gisela Vigil

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…
