The United States Coast Guard

Upon the raging seas we sail
without a band playing
and no one to hail
we play hard, we work hard
with plenty of stories to tell
yes, we are the men and women of the
United States Coast Guard

Fighting the war on drugs
by land, sea, and air
it’s a responsibility
that we all must share

Flying on law enforcement cases
and saving lives at sea
it takes us to some really exotic places
that we thought we’d never be

So, ashes to ashes
and bust to busts
I think you will finally agree
that the seas belong to us…

This is a very powerful poem that encapsulates the dedication, courage, and sense of duty held by the men and women of the United States Coast Guard. The rhythmic structure and play on words are effective in not just narrating the story, but also engaging the reader. The line, "fighting the war on drugs by land, sea, and air" does an excellent job highlight the vastness of their responsibility.

The seamless transition between roles, from law enforcement to life-saving endeavors, underscores the versatility and resilience of these brave individuals. The witty twist at the end "ashes to ashes and bust to busts, I think you will finally agree that the seas belong to us" eloquently affirms the Coast Guard's authority in a lively tone.

For improvements, consider incorporating more vivid and descriptive imagery to help illustrate the "exotic places" they travel to. This would supplement readers’ understanding and appreciation of the myriad tasks the Coast Guard undertakes. Additionally, working on consistent rhyming could add to the flow and rhythmic quality of the poem, making it even more enjoyable to read. Keep up the excellent work! This piece definitely does justice in paying tribute to the valor of the United States Coast Guard.
