Sthembile Thingo Gwala

Born in Wartburg KwaZulu-Natal, Sthembile Gwala is a South African Zulu Poet, play writer and performer based in Pietermaritzburg. She is also a Director and Founder of Milando YeMinyaka (Pty). Her writings draws on her cultural and spiritual thoughts which paints profound and enlightening images in her words and phrases. Carrier From 2011 she started performing at Pietermaritzburg and Durban based poetry sessions and series shows. In the year 2014 she wrote and performed in collaboration with Phiwokuhle Nyambose, a theatrical series of poems called SEMBADIH which showcased at the Tatham Art Gallery. In 2015 she wrote in collaboration and performed with (Phiwokuhle Nyambose) a theater play UThingo Shades Of Light in the current State of Poetry showcased at Durban PlayHouse. The play received appearance on the Daily News "To Night " cover page. She was named Poetry Africa Slam Jam Champion in 2017. She also collaborated with the Legendary Themba Mokoena (guiterist) in live shows and Treasure My Thoughts Sessions , she staged a show Dust Of My Bones of which she is a founder and organizer. Her poem UThingo inspired by the play (UThingo Shades Of Light) was featured and published in a 2nd edition of Womandla Poetry Book. Sthembile has been invited to performer in South African shows like KZN Poetry Festival, Poet In a Suite, Sundowners Jazz and Poetry Sessions, Maritzburg Film Festival, Women In Concert Series, DAC Cultural Programme for Indigenous Languages Conference 2019 and Tree Of Poetry Shows. Of recent Sthembile was invited to be a guest at Izinkondlo Ziyaphilisa onlie Podcast. For the past few years this young performer has been working on Izinkondlo ZoThingo Projects that will be launched and released in 2022.
