Truth's Lessons

Harsh words poison, wound,
pride is thoughtless, self-designed
boastful, cruel, loud,
spitefully-- to point its sling,
viciously-- to aim its sting.

But God is no author of sin,
His grace gives the kingdom within,
His mercy pours down to heal,
His Word is a tower and shield.

Then he who exalts his will,
falls into his own hell,
truth's lessons-- his heart to perceive,
love's balm-- to humbly receive.
