Copper and Tin
You compromised on those dreams of old;
The ones you thought were silver and gold.
You traded them in
For copper and tin,
And only did what you had to do.
You'd see it through — that much I knew.
You prowl the mansions of my mind,
And hold a key to every room.
I could make you leave, but I'm not that kind,
And besides, you still light up my gloom.
I never thought I'd be without
Your physical presence or your sweet voice.
Your spirit's here still, of that there's no doubt;
But when love's fire burned low you made your choice.
You compromised on those dreams of old;
The ones you thought were silver and gold.
You traded them in
For copper and tin.
You only did what you had to do,
But you saw it through;
Leaving me here, with memories of you.
