Poem 3

I started to write a poem,
and then I stopped.

I stopped,
because the use of ART
to express emotion
diminishes the truth
of how I feel.

It’s a falsehood -
a facade…
an unconvincing,
anodyne version
of what I actually want to reveal

It’s hard.

So, instead,
here is the most truthful thing I have ever said:

“It broke my heart when I left.

I hoped that you would run away with me”,
thoughts of sanity/madness bereft -
just a chance to die with me
in sympathy…
but you stayed in your safety,
you stayed in your well,

you became the
‘Dorian Grey’
of the world you were placed into -

the pressure of knowledge,
and the dismissal there unto,

and so I retreated into a safety -
a shell.

A shame.

UNDO.

I WILL see you again,
you are guaranteed.

Please put
just a touch
of salt
in my
coffee.

It cuts through the bitterness.

It reminds me of you.
