Voices

Shh… do you hear them…

No, you pretended you couldn’t hear more than the sounds of the night
I pleaded for you to listen, the voices calling to me
Sounding like a lullaby being whispered against the wallpapered halls
Nothing but a falsely sympathetic smile

Why didn’t you care enough for me
Simply stating it were a mere lack of sleep, all in my head

You know, I’m not crazy

Shh… do you hear them…

No, you couldn’t hear them because you left me here where the walls talk
Inky shadows walking through the halls
The dark cold energy trailing along their restrictive chains
Steel links that bound to them from life's failures

Why have you gone so far from me
The void that’s been created now set deep within my wounded heart

I heard you singing your love the night it started, the night you left

Shh… do you hear them…

No, you no longer hear anything while being so far down
Heavy voices drowning even my deepest thoughts
They haunt my dreams, or maybe my wake
Night and day intermingling into a blur now

Why didn’t you take me with you then
Only telling me life was meant to be one long journey but not for us both

Wishing now that the darkness would consume me, to be with you

Shh…. Shh…

About this poem

It's a loss of self. When we end up in a place where we lose who we are from the manipulation of others.
