Hero
You
That feels like a failure
That sees each shortcoming
And broken piece
And feels regret
Inadequacy
Loss
You were not born into a life of splendour
There was no gilded vessel waiting to carry you through the storms
You were tossed into an angry sea
A fledgling bobbing in the the overwhelm of waves
Seeking a shoreline
Cursing the night sky
You’d heard the stars were beautiful
But you had salt in your eyes
And it’s hard to admire beauty
When you’re drowning
But here you are
Your strength running deeper
Than your scars
The storm has passed
And you survived
The sun is coming up
And soon, you will walk upon these shining waters
A master of yourself
A beacon to those still in the sea
Your faith and soul made stronger
I want you to know
I see you
And I’m in awe of you
For what you endured
For how long you’ve held on
Though the night was as pitch
And the sea pulled you under
You didn’t let go
You were never too far gone
You took one choking breath after the other
And you fought your way back home
Following the light of the moon
Trusting that there was hope,
A solid place to stand soon
You are a fighter
And all of your tomorrows hold beauty
Grace holds you now
You are stronger than me
You are stronger than you know
And I’m writing this to tell you
To keep fighting, your strength will be a beacon to others
And you are my hero
