Small and Simple
Terry Teza 1966 (Yangon)
Those moments
We used to have,
When two hearts connect.
When we accept each other.
When we care for each other.
When we understand each other.
When we make each other smile.
When we speak the truth despite of fear.
When we watch the sunset together.
Now, we use
Technology to communicate.
Digital to calculate.
Emoji to express.
TikTok to amuse.
YouTube to preoccupy.
Facebook to hide our real face.
Apps to fantasize.
To be small again,
It's a gigantic task.
To be simple again,
It's a complicated matter.
Yet, I still hope
We could be authentic again
To share these moments again in time
Will you be my valentine?
About this poem
About this poem: This poem is about the poet's reflection on the below quotation of Sarah Ban Breathnach. The poet recalled the "good old days" where our life is more simple and small moments of 'human touch' could lead to a fulfilling life. In contrast, in the modern world, we replace 'human touch' with touching handphone, gadgets etc. From nature to acquired From real to virtual From simple to complicated. But the poet still has some hope left to be a real human again. But the task is so gagantic that he could not do it alone. Only the power of love could do the magic of a 'human touch'. The Small and Simple "We think that it is the big moments that define our lives- the wedding, the baby, the new house, the dream job. But really these big moments of happiness are just the punctuation marks. The narrative is written every day in the small and simple." more »
