Where Do the Flowers Go?

Where do the flowers go when winter comes?
The age-old question comes to mind.
Do the lilies rise up and march away
Leaving a barren field behind?
Or do they merely hide away
Not seen by beast nor bird
Beneath the blanket of the snow
Till again Spring’s life is heard?
No, the flower dies in wilted beauty
Having faithfully performed its duty,
And they who created the flower smiles
And allows it to rest a transient while,
Then plucking its soul from among the crumbled leaves,
He carries it home with them while the meadow grieves.
