Plastic knife // Missing person 3

“i complain about being a background character a lot,”
i write as i wrote you off
But i thought a bit too much last night
i didn’t think letting go of your throat would kill you faster

i must have forgot, ‘cause what a start we all had
In such shallow waters to drown myself in
And i lit myself on fire
Just to bring some light into my room

Give me a new place to rest
Away from this dirty mirror
There’s a plastic knife held at my throat
And i run away in fear

Look at your arms, look into your eyes
Whichever one hurt you the most
I could have told you from the beginning
You don’t recover from these moments.
(You get worse.)

To say anything you mean means opening the window
But our rooms’ a fucking mess
Tell me how it feels, as if it really needs to be heard
As if we don’t know what it means

Give me a new place to rest
Give me a respite
There’s a plastic knife pointed at me
Let me turn out the light

There’s a facsimile of truth to my name
Because i don’t know how talk,
Or write, or text, or conversate
i’m just some dumbass rock

But inside my kitchen drawers,
The tool for my escape
Make me run away now
Don’t make me wait

i’ve rested long enough by now
To my only God, i plea
As i chase you with a plastic knife
To keep you away from me

// Now open up the window
Go ahead
There doesn’t have to be a rhythm, or a rhyme or a reason
Don’t kid yourself with faulty baggage
There’s just so little to do
And so much time to do it
But your angels have been recalled
You’re free
So give one more look,
Try it.
You’re ringing in the kitchen
You hear you, too
The chorus of skillets, stainless pans, and reveries
A stainless steel drumbeat, KitchenAid accessories
Your birthday smoothie blender, a thousand memories
The chipped ceramic mug that belonged to your mother, every-
thing is fine now, your soul was in jeopardy
You let your guard down, but you’re gonna live for a century
Remember me how i was, but hear this now
If you stare in the mirror to long, you’ll see someone else
But don’t panic, there’s always an opportunity
Hear the static, you’ll probably end up fine
But your heart keeps screaming
To watch your back
Like you once did
Don’t listen to your heart anymore, listen to me
Only watch your hands, the people that you hold
Can do a lot worse than the ones who creep behind
Don’t fill that hole, or you’ll make it bigger
The broken porcelain and ceramic plates on the floor
They belong there, and you don’t have to remember me
But before i go, and leave you to you,
Know that i’m done trusting people too
Because all my mixing bowls, stockpots, graters and saucepans
Baking sheets, spatulas, whisks and soup cans
Are moving somewhere else
And the kitchen is yours.

O, what a sight
To see an impenetrable man break himself.

i traded off my place to rest
To feel something new
From this plastic knife, but all roads
Lead away from you.
