One Flower In My Garden

One Flower In My Garden

One tiny soul lies beside me tonight;
A blessing from God that gives my life light.
There are many flowers in my garden, divine;
I cannot believe I can call them all mine.

When once I had thought they would never bloom;
I forgot to water them or would water them too soon,
But then, I gained wisdom and tended them right;
Then, lo, and behold!  I have before me this sight!

Everywhere I stroll, the fragrance is sweet,
Surrounding my head, with a blanket at my feet.
My bouquet is so lovely; I pluck a vase for my table;
And every day I pass by, I sniff when I am able.

Yes, this tiny soul that lies beside me tonight,
Reminds me of how my life is so right!
With every breath this lovely flower takes,
Gives my life sustenance for Heaven's sake.

Now, I close my eyes in wonder--bow my head and pray.
Lord, I do thank thee for each waking day.
To behold my garden of treasured blooms;
That fills my heart with renaissance tunes.

About this poem

I dedicate this poem to my granddaughter, Alyssa and her mother, my daughter Tiffany, who brought her to me. The verse was written in the middle of the night when Alyssa was sleeping with me. Glancing at her sleeping, all her innocence and sweetness brought out the notepad. These are an inner treasure box of feelings in all of us. Some choose not to open and express: I choose to express and share for those who care to read. Most poetry is written with sentiment and from the soul, which is fed from the heart. And those poems live on from each opened treasure box.
