The struggle of a Generation

Zealous Frank 2000 (Nigeria)

We are stuck in the past,
But the calendar keeps reading fast.
2023 it says, but our attitude reads historical,
And though it seems to be without,
The caption signifies the need for revival.
We read in full, yet we ignore the meaning
What are we to say of the future,
When the past reigns supreme.

Our uniformity is lost - Unity is gone
Blank spaces in a future yet to come
The youth constantly trailing nought
A war of emancipation with weapons of deceit
Repression beautified in reality,
Arguments to justify our intellect and its beauty.
Faith is misconstrued and misunderstood,
while the idea of "macho" is limited to our own views.

We justify the good and bad
That which is wrong and that which is right
Values to keep us active, read to us in stanzas
Manipulation in singular and plural
By nouns and pronouns
Lethal as it is defined by that which is lost
Questions characterized by ambiguity,
as we are expected to redefine our sincerity.
