The evergreen #1

Hello evergreen, I wonder what do you feel? You sway and bend and buckle and snap.

I wonder if you are Stoic, I ponder if you are secure.

I knock on your branches but I hear no reply inside. She touches my arm reassuring.

I look up to see you peering in our direction, grinning but cautious.

I fall into your eyes, I cannot withstand to look, yet I dare not look away..

But what of mine?

Evergreen? Can you see me?

I close my eyes and when they once again open, we find ourselves on a path to you. But why are you so far?

So much smoke, but we can see you, granted a little hazy.

We walk and survey, cogitating for answers, but I am left with more questions. Even if she is not.

Only one, oh my sweet, has ever been of this intensity.

My walls once fortified barbed, bricked, and full of static.

We are almost to you now and we must know.. evergreen.. do you ever dream of us? Like we do for you?

All at once your leaves catch a blaze!

Wait! Stop! why are you burning?!

You lean your branches toward us but I freeze. Why do I freeze? When you are burning so?

Perhaps the intensity of your heat, it warns to not get too close, but also invites us in.

So far in, I fear I’m past the point of no return.

I’m frightened frozen in place, yet she, next to me, takes a step.

I don’t want to take damage again, I’d rather self destruct.

My walls are back up burning evergreen.

End this now and pretend these feeling aren’t here I whisper to myself.

My body turns into a hard shell as I myself receded.

I almost finished shutting down, when I feel something touching my shell.

I open my eyes to see she, and you evergreen!

But oh how you have changed! Your branches now covered in soft moss I accept your embrace.

She looks at me knowingly and embraces me too.

But wait, evergreen can you see me?

Your head tilts, but your eyes remain the same, How can it be? Can you see..

 A fraction of my soul?

Again she steps forward, this time I follow in suit.

My bravery wavers, but I must know can you see us?

Your eyes glance from her to me, you nod gently and a portion of my walls shift free.

Is that sufficient for you?

For now, it’s absolute for me.

Me and she tie ourselves to you evergreen.

For no matter the worry, it was always written to be, as it shall be.
