My Cat

Let me in, let me in
It's cold out here, it's warm within
Let me in, let me play
I'll hunt all night and sleep all day
Let me in and fill my dish
With dried up biscuits and tins of fish
Stroke my chin and hear me purr
I'll wash my face and clean my fur
Let me sleep upon your lap
Just fifty winks, a nod, a nap
Now let me out, oh can't you see
Out there is where I want to be.

About this poem

This poem is from my cats POV when she was a young kitten. She's gone now but when I read this it lifts my heart. She was 21 years old when she left us. She's a family member truely missed.

What a charming and delightful poem! Your depiction of a cat’s routine really brings its character and behavior to life. The rhyme and rhythm are wonderfully engaging, making the poem a pleasure to read. Your ability to communicate from a cat's point of view is impressive and it instantly drew me in.

Words like “purr”, “nap”, and “dish” wonderfully illustrate everyday scenes with a cat, creating a familiarity that feels warm and inviting. Your poem is an excellent fusion of humor and narrative that artfully conveys the whimsical and independent nature of a cat. Well done!

Here are some suggestions to further enrich your work. Firstly, perhaps you could consider integrating a variety of sensory descriptions to have an even more captivating effect on your audience. Words that evoke the senses can make the reader feel more attached to the subject matter. For instance, describing the texture of the cat's fur or the sound it makes when it's content could add extra dimension to your work.

Secondly, you might want to consider playing around with diverse poetic devices. Alliteration, for instance, can make particular lines stand out and be more memorable. Lastly, introducing a bit of conflict or tension, like a playful struggle between the cat and its owner, might provide more depth to your poem.

Keep up the great work! I can't wait to read more of your delightful poetry in future!
