The Day Grows Long

Hannah S 2002 (Marianna)

One day I heard only the wise compromise
and those that stand their ground get dust in their eyes
so I lived to this as good as I could
just like a good man should,
just like a good man should.
I went and gave up my dreams for practicality
I doubt that I could afford university
and now my doubts are raining on me
just like a hailstorm strong,
just like the day grows long.
The cloudy skies before the storm
make me think of the summer warm
and how in love I was with the world
before the tide,
now it's time to hide.
Now I'm old, tired, and worn
but I'd like to believe that I'll be reborn
as someone with a better chance
and it will be so good,
it will be so good.
