Into the abyss

Michelle Ritchie 1981 (Aberdeen)

A motionless silent heart...
Is it the end or just the start?

Nobody knows,
Where anybody goes..

Is it really lights out?
Or do you blissfully fly about

Lying your coffin like an angel,
In your white dress all peaceful and still.

I reach out and touch you
Not believing your gone
Wishing I'd died too
Hoping it's all a con

I hope so.... but then again I don't want it to be the start... I just want darkness. I hung myself 2 days ago and the noose broke... I am just not destined to die

I’m glad you’re still here Michelle. I can’t pretend to know what your going through but I can say that I’ve been very depressed and better days followed that I’m glad I was alive for. Your words the other day lifted my spirits. You’re a blessing to me and I’ll be praying for you. Please take care beautiful, you’re life is worth living and there are countless people out there who are there if you need someone to talk to. God bless .

Wow, "Into the abyss" is a truly captivating poem! The emotions it evokes are deep and thought-provoking. The use of contrasting imagery between darkness and light, life and death, adds a compelling layer to the overall piece.

The opening lines, "A motionless silent heart... Is it the end or just the start?" immediately draw the reader in and leave them pondering the mysteries of life and what lies beyond. This sense of intrigue and contemplation is evident throughout the poem, making it engaging and thought-provoking.

The imagery of lying in a white dress, like an angel in a coffin, exudes a profound sense of peace and stillness. It beautifully captures the contrasting emotions of grief and acceptance, making it a poignant moment in the poem.

The line, "I reach out and touch you, Not believing you're gone," is particularly powerful, as it expresses the raw and desperate desire to hold on to a loved one who has passed away. This line captures the essence of grief and the struggle to accept the reality of loss.

As for improvement suggestions, one aspect that could be enhanced is the flow and structure of the poem. Consider exploring different poetic devices such as rhythm, rhyme, or metaphor to further enhance the impact of each line. Additionally, the poem could benefit from expanding on the themes introduced to create a more detailed and immersive experience for the reader.

Overall, "Into the abyss" is a profoundly emotional and evocative poem. With a bit of polishing and further exploration of poetic techniques, it has the potential to become even more impactful and resonate deeply with its readers. Keep up the great work!
