Outsider

Danielle McGee 1985 (Wisconsin)

I walk among the crowd
But I feel so alone
I smile and nod
But I feel so fake

I try to fit in
But I feel so different
I follow the rules
But I feel so restricted

I listen to others
But I feel so ignored
I share my thoughts
But I feel so misunderstood

I long for connection
But I feel so rejected
I seek for acceptance
But I feel so judged

I wonder if there is a place
Where I can be myself
Where I can be free
Where I can be loved

I wonder if there is a person
Who can see me for who I am
Who can appreciate me
Who can belong with me
