Love on trial

My heart aches as I take the stand,
My lover's fate held in my trembling hand.
I swear to tell the truth, and nothing but,
As I testify about the love we've got.

With every question, I feel the weight,
Of a love that's both pure and complicated.
Did she steal my heart? No, I gave it away,
In a moment of weakness, on a bright summer's day.

I remember the way she smiled at me,
And the way my heart skipped a beat so free.
I knew in that moment, I was in trouble deep,
Her love like a drug, I couldn't help but keep.

But now I'm on the stand, and the truth must come out,
About the highs and lows, the whispers and shouts.
Did she break my heart? Yes, but I broke theirs too,
In a love so fierce, it's hard to tell who's who.

I put my lover in the witness box,
And testify to a love that rocks,
My heart on display for all to see,
In a love that's both beautiful and bittersweet.
