Pain of a Man

Lee Harper 1998 (Liverpool)

People fear us,
People like us,
The man who takes the step,
The man who takes the sorrow,
The man who takes the pain,
The man who takes the misery,
And the men that are insane,
Not many are like us,
Me and you are not the same,
We are our own breed,
Men who are not deceived,
Men who do not leave,
Who go through hell and back,
And still we do breathe.

All throughout my life,
All throughout the madness,
All I see is strife,
And a little bit of sadness,
I do not feel the stress,
But the pain I must digress,
For it makes me one of the best,
In life I make the best,
I’ve never felt the power,
For it is too much to hold,
But in my life ahead,
I know I must be bold,
In the darkness and in cold,
My mind it cannot fold,
For all throughout my life,
Weakness cannot be shown,
It’s hard in life to be a man,
But I still tell myself,
‘I can.’
