Loneliness is a spectrum

Lee Harper 1998 (Liverpool)

All throughout life, we try,
So that one day when we die,
Our memories live on,
And our history thrives,
But what if, upon your bed,
The life squeezed out, and a pain in your head,
There was no memory,
Because you are alone.

My mind seethes for intimacy,
A warm touch and chemistry,
I seek peace in that person,
But that person never comes,
And even if they do,
They make me sick like the flu,
Because when you leave,
And I am without you,
I am one of the lonely too.

My mind cries out for companionship,
The same warm touch, and a warm feeling from the lip,
All I want, is to travel away, take a trip,
And I will never let it slip.
Just a friend is all I seek,
Laughter charged, and hatred sleeps,
But when I find it, oh I feel weak.

My mind looks to itself,
To seek knowledge not stored on the shelf,
To be content with loneliness,
To be content with death.
I am alone, and not involuntarily,
I chose this life,
To avoid all strife,
Loneliness is a spectrum,
And I function highly,
So loneliness you cannot deny me.
