Song # 49

Luis A. Estable 1958 (Oriente, Cuba)

Your hands are white as snow.
My hands are dark as night.
Your hands get red when winds do blow.
My hands turn not, they are not light.

Your lips are colored red.
My lips are color brown.
The hairs are golden, yours the hair.
Mine not, make people frown.

But we do love each other
Though I am black, you're white.
Our love does get better and better.
We've proved the day can love the night

This poem is a beautiful representation of love crossing boundaries and defying societal norms. The contrasting imagery between white and dark hands, red and brown lips, and golden and non-golden hair adds depth to the poem's meaning of different yet complementary characteristics in a relationship. The use of color and metaphorical language creates vivid imagery that engages the reader. The message of love overpowering color boundaries is powerful and inspiring, making the reader feel optimistic and hopeful. Overall, this is an excellent and heartwarming poem that celebrates love's ability to unite people, no matter their differences.

Excellent use of contrast, but still Love. Blackness with whiteness. A four pointer Luis. Transformation, coagulation heart to heart.
