I have cuts and I have bruises.
A hollow heart of despair that oozes.
Pseudo smiles and dried up tears,
a relentless mind of foolish fears.
Overwhelming feelings, intrusive thoughts,
Self-deprecation, a stomach of knots
Numb and empty with vacant eyes,
The phrase “I’m fine” is a web of lies.
The corners of my mouth, a permanent frown,
Just on the verge of another breakdown.
Aching and breaking from invisible pain
That no one can see so I must be insane.
I’m yelling, I’m screaming, but out comes no noise .
Trying hard to hold on for the sake of my boys.
But I’m lost in a darkness that never ends,
A burden I place on my family and friends
They say that they’d miss me but I think they’re wrong.
How can you miss someone that’s already gone?

As one who sufers from PTSD, I'm well acquainted with depression. Poetry is a great way to address your thoughts and fears. I sense you are trying to hold on. Don't let that demon beat you! You have talent. Concentrate on sharing it.

I've written of depression in the past as well. It's a hard pill to swallow but one that many must contend with. This is a great outpouring and hopefully as medicinal for you as those of us who needed to read it. You have a purpose and this might just be it. Great job, Kristen.

I felt every wothere with you. Finding the light is tough sometimes, but look closely in your boys and you will find it.
