The Thirst
Derrick E Carey 1981 (Sarasota)
In the midst of confusion
The thirst grows stronger
With every waking moment
My mind grows weary
And turns fragment
And turns the images into nightmares
Questioning myself
How long will this last
Without feeding on the nectar of the gods
That gave me the life I live.
Choosing not to feed is taking the very life
That has been given to me
And throwing it back into their faces
But the moon is full and the night.
Air is warm.
It’s been three days.
And I’ve grown very weak.
What am I trying to prove?
I don't really know yet.
At times I long for the death
The death that I can't come back from
And at times I long for
The life that I once lived
In the warmth of the sun.
