Zesty Italian/ My Brown Eyed Girl

The first job I took
When I returned
Back home
To Florida
Is at a little pub located
In Venice Florida.
I took the Dishwasher position
When I first interviewed
I met a young woman
Who had faith in me?
Before I even got the job
She high fived me
And said to me
Don’t worry about it
Derrick you go this,
And she was right
I did, have this
My first night
I was met by another young woman
Who locked eye’s with me
Like she knew who was
Almost like she knew
The truth about me
Her light brown eyes
Peered right into my soul
The look she gave me
Was like
Saying I got so much
I want to say to you
Or ask you,
But she didn’t know how
She was trying to
Figure me out,
And this was
The first encounter
With this mystery woman

Zesty Italian/ My Brown Eyed Girl

About this poem

Inspired by my encounter with a young woman I would work with at The British Open Pub in Venice Florida in 2019. It was all about chance encounters, and it helped lift my spirits during my journey, and to always be remembered…
