The Limitless Frontier: A poem on the Karman Line
Mawphniang Napoleon 1993 (Ri Bhoi)
The Karman line, a symbol of the skies,
A boundary that marks the end of air,
A line that separates Earth from the prize,
Of the vast universe, beyond compare.
It's theoretical, not physical,
A concept, not a structure we can see,
Its thickness undefined, yet so critical,
In defining the border of what's to be.
It lies 100 kilometers above the ground,
62 miles, a journey we must take,
To cross the line, and reach what's unbound,
To see the world with a brand new gaze.
For it's a symbol, not a physical thing,
A boundary that separates what's within.

About this poem
This poem explores the significance of the Karman line, a theoretical boundary located 100 kilometers (62 miles) above Earth's surface. This line serves as a symbol of the divide between Earth's atmosphere and the vast universe beyond. The poem contemplates the theoretical and abstract nature of the line, as it is not a physical structure and its thickness is undefined. Yet, despite its lack of physical form, the Karman line is critical in defining the border between Earth's atmosphere and the expanse of outer space. The poem invites the reader to consider the journey to cross this line and to see the world with a brand new gaze, free from the constraints of the familiar. more »
