Rescue work
Rescue work
By Heidi McCarty
So many suffering souls,
Run the streets day and night,
How I wish I could gather them all up,
And squeeze them all so tight.
It’s hard to say no,
It’s hard to turn away,
It’s hard to live this life,
Each and every day.
I spend my days consumed,
With thoughts of suffering cats,
Who wants to live this way?
A feeling I can’t combat.
Am I doing enough?
Am I really making a change?
Why does no one want to help?
I find it really strange.
How can you look in a cats eyes?
That’s begging you for help?
How can you walk away,
As they sit, cry and yelp?
How do you live with yourself?
Knowing that you didn’t do a thing?
You left them lay there suffering,
What comfort did you bring?
I try to work, and care for my family,
I try to have a life outside of this,
But no matter what I do,
It’s rescue work I miss.
I feel like my purpose is not fulfilled,
Unless I’m rescuing or trapping,
I’m not satisfied, unless I hear the trap snapping
The exhilaration I feel,
When i see the trap door tripped,,
The relief I feel,
When everything’s done and your ear has been clipped.
I don’t know what your future holds ,
Outside of this trap door,
But you’ll never have to worry,
About having babies anymore.
I will continue to advocate,
For those with no voice,
Making sure no more suffer,
Will always be my first choice.
With each head I pet through the trap
With each hand that I have gloved
Know that it’s a sign,
That you are deeply loved.
Some day I hope this will all change,
So you don’t continue to live in fear,
I hope this madness stops,
As I’m all out of tears.
I will forever be your voice ,
I’ll catch you when you fall,
Until my last breath, I’ll be there
I’ll be there for you all.
