Dusty

Through the bars in the shelter I peered
I wasn’t looking for him at first
He crawled over to me and into my heart
Opened the door and out he came
Up my arm and onto my shoulder
Purring like crazy, so loud and warm
Hugs and kisses we shared
All orange, sweet, and full of love
Yes, he was the one, I couldn’t get him yet
Back into the cage he went
Promises of love soon, I won’t forget
Told the guy at the desk to keep him safe
Not to sell him; I’d be right back
Hurried home and told my husband
Out the door he ran to get our sweet boy
Came home too quickly, no baby in sight
Said he was gone, but it will be all right
Onto the couch I fell sobbing all the way
Couldn’t stop crying and feeling sick
I promised him we’d be back and sighed
He was the perfect one
All orange, sweet, and full of love
My husband looked at me, smiled and said, “He’s  in the car”.
I jumped up and hugged him tight
Happy tears now no sad ones in sight
Ran out to get our sweet baby boy
He found me, his new mamma that day
Hugs and kisses we shared
All orange, sweet, and full of love
Our family is complete
Two daughters and one son
