"First Kiss"
"First Kiss"
I've never had anyone explain the metaphysics of it?
That thing that happens with attraction,
I mean I get it, the "opposites attract" idea, but does that mean our electrons are moving on some subatomic level, moving across back and forth, fulfilling their own little molecular needs and passions that work their way out from just underneath the skin and make that first touch electric.
And what's with the energy of a first kiss? It's like plugging into the source!
But it's so much more than that, it's this level of inherent knowledge.
The perfect separation of the lips, just the right amount of pressure, synchronized movement of the lips, just the right amount of moisture. The current seems to increase with the pressure and the movement and the moisture!
You add to that the friction of two tongues in fluid with the electrons flowing and the pressure increasing to the point where you feel your heads are going to explode if you give or take anymore of this energy/passion!
You violently break the connection looking into each others eyes in amazement and find your faces slamming back together like two opposite sides of a magnet that got too close.
Now you're on again like a light switch and this time it only ends at the point of sheer exhaustion, like the breaker switch blows and you fall apart from each other wet and drunk with passion and wondering how in the world does that happen?
And will we ever be able to do it again?

About this poem
This poem is inspired by the most amazing first kiss I've ever had. My friend was leaving, moving thousands of miles away too follow her heart. We were hanging out at a park, sitting on the swings trying to work out our goodbye. I was more difficult than either of us imagined as we found words failing us. We just swung into each others arms, holding on to each other as if we could some how prevent the impending separation by the grasp we held upon one another! Swaying together in our swings both fighting back the tears suddenly our lips clung into our first kiss. By the time it was over we wondered how we had waited so long for that kiss and how if we had had it any earlier, we may not be saying goodbye! I can't wait to tell the fill story of the love affair that came back to me 10 years later! All I can say is, it wasn't just the "First Kiss!" more »
