Analysis of The pessimist (found in my late mothers stuff)

Ella Wheeler Wilcox 1855 (Janesville) – 1919

THIS CRAZY, DISAPPOINTING WORLD
KEEPS GETTING IN MY HAIR :
IMAGINE! GROPING ALL THESE YEARS
FOR JOYS THAT JUST AIN'T THERE !

DISAPPOINTMENTS, RIGHT AND LEFT,
IN FOLKS, EVENTS, AND SUCH  --
LIFE RUNS SMOOTHLY FOR AWHILE,
THEN  PRESTO !  I'M IN DUTCH !

LIFE MOCKS MY EVERY DREAM AND SAYS,
"I WON'T BE KIND-I WON'T"
YOU'D THINK THAT I'D HAVE SENSE ENOUGH
TO LAUGH AT HER-- BUT I DON'T.

I CHOOSE TO BE A PESSIMIST,
AN UNAMBITIOUS RUNT:
LIFE HATES ME - DAILY KNOCKS ME DOWN,
AND THERE I STAY - AND GRUNT !
