Elle est si douce, la pensée,
Qu'il faut, pour en sentir l'attrait,
D'une vision commencée
S'éveiller tout à coup distrait.

Le coeur dépouillé la réclame ;
Il ne la fait point revenir,
Et cependant elle est dans l'âme,
Et l'on mourrait pour la finir.

A quoi pensais-je tout à l'heure ?
A quel beau songe évanoui
Dois-je les larmes que je pleure ?
Il m'a laissé tout ébloui.

Et ce bonheur d'une seconde,
Nul effort ne me l'a rendu ;
Je n'ai goûté de joie au monde
Qu'en rêve, et mon rêve est perdu.
