Ce bon vieux pont, sous ses trois arches,
En a déjà bien vu de l’eau
Passer verte avec du galop
Ou du rampement dans sa marche.

Il connaît le pas, la démarche
De l’errant qui porte un ballot,
Du petit berger tout pâlot
Et du mendiant patriarche.

Au creux de ce profond pays,
Entre ces grands bois recueillis
Où l’ombre humide a son royaume,

Le jour, à peine est-il réel !...
Le soir, sous l’œil rouge du ciel,
Il devient tout à fait fantôme.
