Par ce temps pluvieux qui fait pleurer ma vitre,
Mon cœur est morfondu comme le passereau.
Que faire ? encor fumer ? j’ai fumé déjà trop ;
Lire ? je vais bâiller dès le premier chapitre.

En vain tous mes bouquins m’appellent, pas un titre
Ne m’allèche. Oh ! le spleen, implacable bourreau !
Par ce temps pluvieux qui fait pleurer ma vitre,
Mon cœur est morfondu comme le passereau.

Et, miné par l’ennui rongeur comme le nitre,
Je m’accoude en grinçant devant mon vieux bureau ;
Mais ma plume se cabre et refuse le trot,
Si bien que je m’endors le nez sur mon pupitre,
Par ce temps pluvieux qui fait pleurer ma vitre.
