Paa Valpladsen faldt Du for Danmarks Sag,
Der brast Dit ildfulde Hjerte.
Din Aand var klar som den lyse Dag,
Med „fremad!" den steg i det blodige Slag,
Saae Danskens Seier og — Smerte.

Græd stakkels Moder, nedbøiet tungt.
„Hans Liv var saa ungt!" — men evig ungt
Staaer ogsaa hans Eftermæle!
