Det nye Aar kommer susende
Over Vandene.
Er Du rige Fugl, der brusende
Kommer ind i Landene,
Glædevinkende?
Er Du fattige Fugl, der linkende
Kommer med Sorg og med tunge Kaar?
Kan Du bedrøve meer end det gamle Aar?
Kan Du hugge i Hjerterne dybere Saar?
Hvad skal vel nævnes som din Bedrift,
Naar Du staaer omtalt i gammel Skrift?
Hvad mon vel Herren ved Dig os sender?
Vor Bøn kan os styrke i al vor Vee,
Men ikke forandre, hvad der skal skee.
