Analysis of Why this Mess? Psalm 44

All the cards

Are against us now

So it seems.

God of Jacob

You attend elsewhere.

Forget all our

Through the years.

Oh sure, there were slip-ups.

But tears and repentance

Worked their work.

Now the enemies

Of righteousness and truth

Laugh at us.

.Make your Law and

Constancy seem small

Proclaim our greatest hopes

We are as sheep

For the slaughter.

Our bellies lie in the dust.

Our faces covered.

Why this terrible reversal

Rise up, and show your

Your strong right arm

Strong and swift.

To rescue the meek.

To regard holy fear.

About this poem

There are times when God whom we have trusted seems distant, disinterested, even hostile. We bawl and protest. But eventually we return to His promises. We search Him out more intently. Greater intimacy comes with the deliverance. Psalm 107 is another good read in this vein.
