Analysis of Talk without price, without money.

Douglas Blair 1951 (London)

There was never any price tag
To our walks.
Problems laid out in candour
Lots of listening.
You would see to that.
Look me straight in the eyes.
Straight.
And a half grin
Suggesting that when you did
Speak, it would not be genius.
But be your best for sure.
With facts in hand.
Perhaps I could then
Blend in a few more.
That had almost been missed.
You were not quick
To wrap up.
Quick to move on to
The next person, or item
On your list.
I always felt that I
Was the entire list
At that moment.
And entire satisfaction.
(Apples are perfect
Pods, blossoms, perfect tough fruits
Before they are perfect pies.)
And then maybe your
Hand on my shoulder.
Your eyes a-sparkle.
Thinking back to some way
I had amused you in the past
Or shown some glimpse
Of Character.
Love you Dad.
Always will.
Thanks for this.
Again.
