Analysis of Christ is My Friend

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

I need a friend that can be a lover
Not a lover who can be my friend
When I find myself with them under covers
I need to know it will last to the end

Not based on performance or effort or pride
By these things I do not judge a friend
But just on the love and commitment they show
A commitment to me till the end

I began to see there was love in my heart
That knowledge changed everything
So now as I listen perfecting my art
I cry and I worship and sing

My friend must share with me in all of these things
But especially in obedience to Christ
I know that when Jesus is at the center of things
He brings to those things a new life

So, tell me now should we go on from here?
Or bring this thing to a quick end?
I don’t need someone to put their trust in me
But someone that believes in my friend
