Analysis of Looking Back
She died in my arms; her breath slowly stopped
My best friend was gone
As she stepped over to the new world beyond
My heart it was numb, my mind it was frozen
Till later, like thunder, the tears they did fall
No warning, no shout out, no nothing at all
They seem to be there whether happy or glad
Unseen by others who don’t know you are sad
For years the pain lasts though it lessens with time
Looking back at the good times some comfort is found
The feelings still strong for the love of another
Forever my heart holds a place for my mother

About this poem
The death of my mother at the time was not as earth shattering as I thought it would be in the moment it occurred, however, the effect at a later stage was immense, the sense of loss etc is huge and Im sure everyone feels the same.
