Analysis of Tailed
Stride through moonless morning
By cool stars our road glows
Awaits sun’s fresh dawning
Brashly part deep shadows
Labrador duo escort
Affable and playful
Merrily they cavort
Side by side ever faithful
Sense specter near our band
Steadfast companions turn
Sober all face and stand
Stalked slyly we discern
Silhouettes skulk near
Half dozen prowling beasts
Coyotes eagerly leer
Angling for a feast
Stomp boots aggressively
With malice roar profane
Pups growl protectively
Brawl ready we proclaim
Pack’s conviction slows
Eastern sky reveals day
Melt away ghostly foes
Sage tip - just back away

About this poem
Very early one morning, my dogs and I were hiking through the foothills. Suddenly we found ourselves outnumbered, as an aggressive pack of coyotes attempted to outflank us.
