You Lost Me
Damsel Salatan 1997 (Philippines)
I thought Family
Supposed to be
Our safe haven?
Yes, you helped create me;
But you are the reason
I was chained
by the feelings
of insecurities
and unworthiness.
Every seed
A man planted
Should be nurtured
and taken care of;
Well, I guess
you don't have the
Knowledge and
Understanding
on watering plants—
To grow,
To exposed in lights
of love and guidance.
The pain,
The damage,
Being deprived
the opportunity
to grow up in
what we called 'Home'.
I dream of dreams
Having a
Happy,
Loving,
Supportive family—
Once dreamt,
Now lost.
The ones I thought
Would never leave,
Would never cause pain,
Were actually the ones
Who caused pain, and left.
I should not be withheld
in their vastness,
but someday,
I will steal your happiness.
I may sound wicked
They left me wounded.
I tried to forgive,
Time and time;
But what it is,
Won't come to mind.
Telling myself,
Fooling myself,
It wasn't big deal;
Your delinquency
Destroyed me.
Anyone can call
Themselves as 'parent'
but real parent
Sacrifice their lives,
so that their
children will have a
better life and future
they deserve—
Therefore, you are not
A parent, after all.
I used to fight for you before,
Now, I no longer misses you,
I always think of you before,
Now, I don't care anymore—
I am not afraid
to walk away,
I learned to stand
On my own and
Face uncertainty;
You took me for granted
And never made your priority.
I didn't lose you,
You lost me.
