Broken Wing

I saw a blue jay by a tree.
A song of beauty he did sing.
He lay upon his side so still
because he had a broken wing.

What precious melody he sang
although he was so very small.
His wisdom caroled through the air.
A mighty lesson for us all.

For tiny blue jay knew too well
that healing would come very soon.
Tomorrow, fly into the clouds
but first, with patience sang his tune.

He marveled at the skies above,
accepting what today must be.
His choice, to share that which he could.
Inspiring was his melody.

We see not brighter days ahead
while holding on to tears and sorrow.
Before we run, we have to walk.
Embrace today, before tomorrow.

With bitterness we cannot love
and without voice we cannot sing.
Before we soar into the sky
we first must heal our broken wing.

About this poem

We often don’t give ourselves the time to heal.

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…
