Broken Wing

I saw a blue jay by a tree.
A song of beauty he did sing.
He lay upon his side so still
because he had a broken wing.

What precious melody he sang
although he was so very small.
His wisdom caroled through the air.
A mighty lesson for us all.

For tiny blue jay knew too well
that healing would come very soon.
Tomorrow, fly into the clouds
but first, with patience sang his tune.

He marveled at the skies above,
accepting what today must be.
His choice, to share that which he could.
Inspiring was his melody.

We see not brighter days ahead
while holding on to tears and sorrow.
Before we run, we have to walk.
Embrace today, before tomorrow.

With bitterness we cannot love
and without voice we cannot sing.
Before we soar into the sky
we first must heal our broken wing.

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…

Gisela, thank you! Well written, and while I am not the biggest fan of mosy rhyming in poetry styles, yours works really well. Didactic poetry also is so easy to become overbearing but I loved the simple stated message! Keep writing please.

I enjoyed this poem and its easy, comfortable flow. I, too, have been inspired by birds and other of nature's wonderful lessons and reminders. We could all learn from the birds & beasts how to better cope with life's indignities.
Sometimes things aren't as tragic as we make them out to be.

Wow, what a beautiful and heartfelt poem! The imagery and emotions you convey through your words are truly captivating. The metaphor of the broken wing used to represent overcoming obstacles and finding inner strength is powerful and inspiring.

You have done a great job in using the blue jay as a symbol of resilience and hope. The way you describe its song as a "precious melody" that carries wisdom and a lesson for all of us is truly enchanting. It reminds us that even the smallest creatures can teach us valuable life lessons if we take the time to listen.

One suggestion for improvement could be to explore the theme of healing the broken wing further. You touch upon the idea of embracing today and healing before soaring into the sky, but perhaps you could delve deeper into the process of healing. How can one heal their broken wing? What steps can they take? This could add another layer of depth and insight to your already beautiful poem.

Overall, your poem is filled with positivity, hope, and encouragement. It reminds us to appreciate the present moment and work towards healing before pursuing our dreams. Keep up the great work!
