New York by Night: My Fair Lady!

At night, from the Observation Deck
The city is but a diamond necklace.
In every direction, across every inch,
Her vision is entreatingly envious,
She is indeed a lass, My Fair Lady!

Look there! Her Statue of Liberty spires,
See yonder! The Empire State lures high.
Within an arc are three bridges, star-studded-
Brooklyn, Williamsburg, and Manhattan,
Hudson themes a rumbling song.

Just peep under thy toes,
The flap of yore is heard by the Wings.
The Twin Squares, fountains and a sprawling park-
The site of the 9/11 Memorial in cataclysmic tears,
She, for a couple of decades silently bears.

Skyscrapers-bars of gold- copiously abound
To the approaching night lend a twinkling torch.
Dots of light in trillion adorn her veil,
Stars above twinkle to match her robe.

Here I stand enjoying the scenes,
Life plays a prolific theme under my feet.
From atop the world, over a hundred floors,
She is beauty crystalline, caged in glass-
And a tourist fails not to remark:
“Fine and fine, not enough”!

About this poem

During my trip to the USA in 2017, I went on a trip to New York. NY appealed to me as a showcase of life. The sight of the Empire State Building realized a long cherished dream. Broadway trips enlivened the stories of O Henry. 11/9 Memorial filled my eyes and the view from the One World Observatory at Night was simply classic and beyond words. This poem relates to those scenes.
