Drift Wood

Kevin Girard 1964 (St. Paul, Alberta)

DRIFT WOOD
On the ocean see.
Wood drifting to be.
Where it came from.
Somewhere under the sun.
Will it reach shore?
What was in store?
Fallen from a tree.
Cut down by a saw.
Left behind by one so kind.
Be so lucky, picked -up by hand.
Will it reach land?
Was it a race?
Now know one’s place.
Water logged.
Heart becomes soft.
To the heights of a loft.
Sink it might.
But no, drift wood floats.
Sparrow left behind.
Ugly wood be.
From a beauty.
Lost at sea?
Home for another bird? Hopefully.
There will be another sparrow.
Shot by an arrow.
Heart sucome.
Nothing more fun.
But reality.
This leaves intact dignity.
Does drift wood have feelings?
A person it not be.
With water dealings?
Carried by wave.
Can another save?
Is there purpose left in me?
Return to one’s body.
Dance to the beat.
Listen to the organs.
Whisper sadness in heart.
Quietly, quietly rice paper stand
Running on Etheral Plains
Nothing more to explain
Treat Meloncholy with distain
Leave one’s heart no stain
Eventually come apart.
Doomed from the start
Do what is between
Try not to make a scene.
Be as smart as a dean.
Combination of Co-operation.
Who wood be left?
