Bonded by Trauma

I’m not mad, I’m disappointed.
I’d call you an abuser, but we both seem to be victims
I’ve forgotten which hurts more words or fists
Matching Cuts and bruises
What was done to you is now done to me
Forever bonded by trauma

I’m not mad, I’m disappointed.
Your narcissistic characteristics we now share, so “our” would fit better
The same words used on you, you now use on me
Living in my brain those words then become mine
Forever bonded by trauma

I’m not mad, I’m disappointed.
My hero and destroyer, attempting to fix what you’ve broken
I am my own person, but I’m also you
A cycle repeated, change feels impossible
Love and hurt look the same through our eyes
Forever bonded by trauma

I’m not mad, I'm disappointed.
Your truth will never be my truth, does that make mine a lie?
Every pair of eyes see differently, that must be why we don’t agree
A bond built on hating others, probably also each other
Healthy isn’t a word used in this relationship, scared of the unknown
Forever bonded by trauma

I’m not mad, I'm disappointed.
Validation was never given, love lost and hearts broken
The cycle continues, passed from you to me
A bond with loose wrists and tight fists
Brainwashed, heart lost, confusing thoughts
Forever bonded by trauma
