No
Elizabeth Cardona 2008 (Manhattan)
How does it feel
To be trapped in a room
Where you know you shouldn't be in
Trapped with a feeling of disgust
Wanting to scream for help
Your insides shifting
Heart impatiently beating
And all because they fein for something
They can’t have
Touching what does not belong to them
My mother always taught me no means no
But when the world sees a no as a yes
When your words are trapped on the tongue
“No stop”
“I don’t want this”
But all you can say is please
Pathetic
How come I can speak
Where my words do not belong
But when my life
My dignity
My innocence
Is on the line
And all I can mutter
Is a simple please
When my head is screaming
“NO!”
That moment where your body is no longer yours
When your taking orders from another
Completely vulnerable in your own skin
Hoping that it's only for a moment
Trying to find comfort in the dark
Trying to find peace after all is said and done
Was it my fault?
Am I to blame?
Oh to find peace
In a dark and twisted place
About this poem
I wrote this poem based on sexual assault because I feel like s/a is such a taboo subject and people will never really know what it feels like.
